Becoming A Healthy Eater
Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is. Being food smart isn’t about learning to calculate grams or fat, or is it about studying labels and counting calories.
Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day. Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.
Eating healthy requires quite a bit of leeway. You might eat too much or not enough, consume foods that are sometimes more or less nutritious. However, you should always fuel your body and your brain regularly with enough food to keep both your mind and body strong and alert.
A healthy eater is a good problem solver. Healthy eaters have learned to take care of themselves and their eating with sound judgement and making wise decisions. Healthy eaters are always aware of what they eat, and know the effect that it will have on their bodies.
When someone is unable to take control of their eating, they are also likely to get out of control with other aspects of life as well. They could end up spending too much, talking too much, even going to bed later and later.
You should always remember that restricting food in any way is always a bad thing. Healthy eating is a way of life, something that you can do to enhance your body or your lifestyle. If you’ve thought about making your life better, healthy eating is just the place to start. You’ll make life easier for yourself, those around you, and even your family.
A Look on Diet Fitness
Many people nowadays are very much conscious about their own health and fitness. In addition to that, these people, and many others as well, are now having that desire to sculpt their bodies to achieve that magazine-cover look. As a result, gyms, health spas and other fitness centers have proliferated all over to cater to the needs of the fitness buffs and afficionados.
Even on television exercise machines, weight loss products, and other paraphernalia to improve fitness have more or less gained control over the airwaves and made their way into the households. But exercise is not the only way to build that body beautiful. It also entails certain amount of responsibility on the foods one chooses to eat. Being healthy and fit requires one to observe diet fitness.
Diet fitness is as essential as exercise itself. Diet for fitness provides the essential nutrition one needs to restore worn-out muscles and for healthy growth. Diet fitness should never be taken for granted. With the popularity of keeping fit, many different views, methods, programs and dieting strategies have been formulated by many professionals. Among these are high carb diets and high fat diets. Whih one is more effective and which one should one choose to follow?
First thing to know would be the fundamental differences between these two diet approaches. As the name implies, high carb diets concentrates on taking in carbohydrate-rich foods while high fat diets endorses fat-rich foods. High carb diets are utilized to glycogen stored in the liver and muscles. Glycogen is a glucose complex that provides large amounts of energy ready for use in anaerobic exercises.
Fats, on the other hand, is well-known for being the richest source of calories. It actually contains 2.5 times more calories than carbohydrates and proteins alike. Studies also show that it takes the body 24 calories to metabolize carbohydrates while it only takes 3 to burn down fat. So which one to follow? A person can follow a high carb and low fat fitness diet or the other way around. It is absolutely not recommended to follow both at the same time; unless of course if you want to gain body fat.
But then diet fitness is not all about losing fat, one must also consider his diet in order to keep fat away. Research shows that sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved on a diet which suits the individual food preferences, lifestyle, medical profile and satiety signals.
Diet programs all over can help you shed off excess pounds, but only one diet can help you stay sexy, and it is the one that satisfies you most. Other important aspects of having a fit diet are moderation, balance and variation. One must be careful not to leave out important nutrients and other substances necessary for healthy body functioning. health organizations are clear about the amounts of nutrients an individual should have in the body.
Low fat high carbs, high carbs low fat; the question is not which diet program will work out but which is it that will work for you. Striving for a sexy and healthy body does not have to burden an individual, diet fitness does not have to mean sticking to the same kind of food for life. One may even try to be adventurous and try out new foods out there. Who knows? one may even discover spinach interesting.
Keeping Track of What I am Eating
I have been thinking that I am going to start keeping track of what I am eating this year. I want to be able to figure out exactly what I am doing good and bad. I think that I am doing pretty good, but I have found in the past that sometimes you can cheat yourself without even thinking too much about it.
So I was talking to a dietician friend and she told me to check out the Dietitians of Canada website, and on there I found EAtracker. I used a couple of other services like this before and was dissapointed, I am going to give this one a go for a month and see how it stacks up. Already I have found a couple of issues where you have to “search” for every food and there isn’t something like a directory that you can simply browse. Not sure how it is going to work as I have had bad expeiences with this sort of thing before since there doesn’t seem to be a lot of time spent on the search function.
If you have tried this before please let me know how you liked it.

Good, Tasty food may be Addictive
There may be a case that in “first world” countries that more and more food is being eaten more for the pleasure and less for the nutrition.
Abundant Delicious Food Could Result In ‘Food Addiction’, Analysis Suggests
This could be a very important factor in the reason why people are getting so much bigger. They simply can’t stop eating. They are getting addicted to the feeling of and pleasure of eating. You have seen people eating a piece of chocolate and seem to love it.
“The combination of an environment filled with highly palatable foods, and cultural norms that make these foods ‘psychologically available’ around the clock may paradoxically be a perfect recipe for the generation of both epidemic obesity and widespread hedonic hunger,” said Lowe.
I am pretty sure that everyone has felt this before. The smell of freshly baked cookies, or having to work late and you are stressed so you pick up some chips on the way home. Nothing special you tell yourself, you simply want to have something to eat and “calm” you down, not because you are hungry or didn’t eat enough during the day.
So what is your addictive food? And how to stay away from it so that it doesn’t start to hurt your waistline.
Don’t Forget the Wine

Mens Health Blog has a great post about the attributes of wine, red wine, well they reference here which is the original article.
The jist is that polyphenol helps to prevent the body from digesting fat. Polyphenol is found in various foods including red wine, fruits, and vegetables. The study however included using concentrated wine followed by a glass of wine as the source of polyphenol. They didn’t however distinguish if it was better to have the concentrated amounts added to the food during or after cooking, or even if the glass of wine is beneficial.
There is many studies stating the benefits of a glass of red wine, so I figure it is a good idea to have a glass with the meal anyway.

Drink Milk
While milk has always been a healthy way to get lots of vitamins and minerals that every healthy person needs, the idea that milk has fat has turned off lots of people. It should be noted that fat in and of itself can be harmful to the body in large quantities, but to not drink milk because of the fat content truly does a disservice to your body.
Milk is an excellent source of two major vitamins, Vitamin D and Vitamin A. Vitamin D is a vitamin that is created by the skin when the sunlight hits it, however for people that do not get lots of sun and are indoors a lot, milk can help. Vitamin A is a great vitamin that is necessary for good eyes and milk as a whole is a great source of calcium which builds strong bones and teeth.
While there are many types of milk, usually based on fat content, make it a priority to have at least a glass of milk per day and if you have children, they should enjoy milk more often. Besides drinking straight milk, look into fresh cheeses, yogurt and even ice cream has the benefits of delicious milk.

If you are trying to lose 5, 10 or even 20 pounds, you can lose this weight quick just by skipping the empty calories. What is an empty calories, it is usually a food or beverage item that has lots of calories but very little nutritional content. Here are some tips.
For instance, one of the most infamous empty calorie products is soda. Soda is known to have over 100 calories per serving. When you look at soda, you realize that soda is just sugar and water. Most people have enough sugar from other foods and don’t need more sugar especially at such a high expense of calories.
Other food items that are extremely high in calories, but have low nutritional value is fast foods. You probably can do without French fries and many giant hamburgers. Some fast food items can have lots of fat, sugar and little vitamins and minerals which the body needs.
Snack foods are another area where you can skip the empty calories, why bother eating 300 calorie donuts when you can enjoy lots of fresh fruits and vegetable. If you want to lose weight, skip the empty calories and instead enjoy many fresh fruits and vegetables.

It is very easy to find foods that are loaded with empty calories, just look at the nutrition labels on your food items that you buy at the supermarket.
